LifeLock Racing Dragster Graphics

bluemedia recently had the ability to work with the amazing crew over at Lifelock racing to update the look of their 2009 dragster. Clay Millican and his team were outfitted with some new graphics for the 2009 racing season. bluemedia produced the graphics on our HP turbojet 8300 using 3M material.

Clay Millican, from Drummonds, Tenn., has loved drag racing his entire life. He got his first race car at the age of 16, and fueled his passion for racing in the Sportsman ranks for many years. Clay had raced as a hobby for all his adult life until Peter Lehman came along. His path to Top Fuel carries a fairy tale style story.

He was working as a forklift driver for Kroger Supermarkets while campaigning simultaneously an IHRA Modified eliminator entry when Lehman selected Millican to drive his Chicago White Sox-sponsored Top Fuel Dragster entry. Peter provided the opportunity for Clay to fulfill a lifelong dream of driving professionally.

The goal was to learn the game and to establish themselves as the Top Fuel team of the future. What Peter saw in Clay was not only a potentially great driver, but a Southern gentleman with an unwavering passion for the sport and genuine appreciation of the fans of drag racing. Lehman and Millican later acquired sponsorship backing from trucking giant Werner Enterprises and formed one of the most well-known driver-sponsor alliances in IHRA Top Fuel history.

Clay’s never short on words personality and success at the race track with ESPN and NHRA Drag Racing has landed him some unique opportunities away from the track.

Speed TV and TV producer Rich Christensen recognized his unique appeal to Drag Racing fans and selected Clay as Host for the Speed TV Drag Race High Series for 2009.

Clay also hosted the series Blow It Up for Speed TV in 2007. In 2005 Clay and the team worked with Warner Bros. Studios to promote the movie release of “The Dukes of Hazzard”. In 2004 during the middle of “Elvis Week,” in the middle of the day, in the middle of one of Memphis’ busiest streets, everything came to a screeching halt – and a smokin’ start – in front of Graceland when then three-time IHRA Top Fuel champion Clay Millican stepped on the gas and launched his Elvis Presley“He Dared To Rock” dragster down the middle of Elvis Presley Boulevard.

A big thank you from bluemedia to the Lifelock Racing team, we can’t wait to follow the progress of Clay through his 2009 racing season!

bluemedia™ Wraps US Racetronics Stargate Worlds Hauler

Monday, April 20th, 2009

bluemedia was recently commissioned by US Racetronics to create, produce and install the graphics for the Stargate Worlds trailer and hauler. Stargate Worlds, the title sponsor, is an online PC video game based off of the popular film and TV series.

Team Stargate Worlds consists of two Atlantic Series drivers, Simona De Silvestro and Frankie Muniz. If that names sounds familiar, it should. Frankie Muniz is the former child star of the popular Fox sit-com, Malcolm In The Middle! This series is considered a “ladder or feeder” series for top level racing in North America.

Team Stargate Worlds cars already boasted a slick, black and yellow-gold striping/paint scheme. Our services were needed to create trailer graphics that not only matched the cars, but also conveyed the bold imagery of the video-game. High resolution graphic elements were provided to bluemedia from the game developer, Cheyenne Mountain Games and Firesky.

This project called for 1,832 Sq. Ft. of 3M Controltac Vinyl w/comply printed on our HP Turbojet 8300. We used our Seal laminator and gloss 8519 for the lamination process. All of the sponsor logos were done in cut vinyl as a second surface application. There was also a small amount of perforated window film. The bluemedia team spent a total of  over 90 man hours hours on this project with the majority of that time spent on installation. The entire rig, tractor and trailer, was red which meant that almost every surface needed to be wrapped. The tractor alone had about 50 man hours of installation.

“The team tested in Sebring, Florida a couple of weeks before the season started, and was questioned by many teams about who produced the wrap,” said Andy Salcido, the bluemedia rep for this account. “Race teams are very competive by nature, not only do they want to go faster than their opponents, they also try want to represent their sponsors in the best light by having bold and impactful graphics on the cars and the haulers. This project will generate many leads and other projects for bluemedia.”

This project will be featured in the July issue of Signs of the Times magazine and we will post the link here when it’s available. Special thanks to US Racetronics and Stargate Worlds for involving us in this awesome project! Go Malcolm,…er I mean Frankie!

The Road to New Vinyl Wrap Markets

Slednecks was born a decade ago, when a group of friends living in Jackson, WY, decided to record their snowmobiling prowess on film. Their movies created a buzz in the extreme-sports subculture, and Slednecks capitalized on this momentum by introducing apparel in 2002. In 2006, Paul Thacker, one of the team’s riders, executed a world-record snowmobile jump of 248 ft. and augmented its fame. (The banner that decorated the jumping ramp appeared in ST’s April 2007 International Sign Contest gallery – see page 117.)

Last year, Slednecks bolstered its cache by developing a live show, which Monster energy drink sponsors, that features snowmobile and dirt-bike stunts, as well as onsite concerts. To optimize its branding, Slednecks hired bluemedia (Tempe, AZ) to build the brand through edgy vehicle graphics. Brandon Boetto, a bluemedia designer, created the design using Adobe Photoshop CS3. A base layer of camouflage-green and taxicab, checkered-yellow vinyl is decorated with a second layer of decals that features the Slednecks logo and those of other corporate sponsors.

Using its Mimaki USA Inc. JV3-160SP printer, bluemedia produced the wrap using 3M Graphics Market Center’s IJ 180-10C cast vinyl with air-egress adhesive and an 8519 luster-finish overlaminate.

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Check out the work we donated in this excerpt from NASCAR Angels. This episode featured Angels On Call, a charity organization who helps needy families with home renovation. While they were out renovating a home, unknown to them, we were wrapping their van. Andy Salcido and Will Mejia, our Design Director, ran point on this project and even get a little face time in the clip. Big shout-out to everyone involved and special thanks to NASCAR Angels for letting us get involved! Angels On Call loved their new wrap and it was a rewarding experience to be able to help them out.

Introducing . . . MEAN MUG!

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

meanmugblogphoto.jpg

Our newest addition to the bluemedia fleet – Mean Mug! This cart is soooooo handy. From setting up events or even hauling signs and banners to our vehicles. Mean Mug has many uses. You are probably asking Mean Mug . . . WTF? Everybody at bluemedia has some character and our vehicles are no exception. If you’ve seen our SWAT Truck wrapped with a flaming skull on it, then you’ll understand! A few weeks after Mean’s arrival we noticed how the front of the cart had the features of a face, mainly the eyes. From that point on, Brand Director – Chris Keal transformed the modern looking electric cart into a vehicle with a face. So I leave you with a quote from our veteran sales rep Andy Salcido “That is BAD ASS”

The Monsters of NASCAR

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Goodby Silverstien and Partners selected bluemedia to produce 24 NASCAR replica wraps to be used in the premier commercial announcing the change from the Nextel Cup to the Sprint Cup for the 2008-2009 NASCAR season. Heat and The Kingdom director Michael Mann got the nod to direct this one-of-a-kind spot.

In typical bluemedia fashion, the project had to be completed in 8 days. The blue crew hustled as usual to pull together the design and printing of over 1,000 graphic pieces to make these mean machines look exactly like their real world counterparts. Right down to the contingency decals and headlights, the bluemedia team worked with Michelle Mintz of GS&P to insure that each car was created to meet NASCAR and sponsor requirements.

As with every great action scene … there has to be a little metal carnage. We are proud to say that in this case … it was pretty amazing to watch our work get destroyed.

Here is the final one minute commercial

Congratulations to Goodby Silverstien, Mr. Mann and the entire creative and production staff, this is truly an exciting and theatrical commercial from start to finish.

Here are some behind the scenes photos of the vehicle graphic install and a great gallery of each stock car that was used in the commercial.

Bluemedia Invades Firebird

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Click image above for more photos.

It was the bluemedia Nationals featuring the NHRA on February 22nd at Firebird Raceway.  As fans entered, ready to fill the stands, they walked underneath the first bluemedia banner towering above them in the entrance way.  The fans roared as engines started and their eyes filled with the Nitrous in the air.

A second bluemedia sign lined up behind the starting line as our racecar, driven by Jim Head, was ready to tear up the track.  The bluemedia skull was in almost every ESPN shot, along with a few great clients like Budweiser and Speedco, a spot where people were getting a closeup of what bluemedia can do as they toured the trailer.

Everything was down to the wire, but we over at blue were able to put together a great weekend full of fans, speed, and good old fashioned racing!

Thanks to everyone who made the weekend rock!
