X Marks The Spot For These X Games Action Sports Graphics

The X Games MasterCraft Throwdown took place at Millennium Park on Saturday, August 8th, to a crowd of about 1,000, and featured wakeboarding as an official sport of the X Games franchise for the first time since 2005. The event aired live on ABC in a World of X Games television special, and showcased some of the biggest names on the water today, including top-ranked pros, past X Games medalists, Pro Wakeboard Tour Champions and World Champions.

“This is one of the biggest events of the season, and these eight guys competing are the best in the world at the moment,” said world-class wakeboarder Mike Dowdy. “There definitely isn’t another event offering a $25,000 cash prize, and with it being a part of the World of X Games Series and with it being on ABC, it’s a huge deal, and I’m just really happy to be a part of it.”

bluemedia’s very own President, Jared Smith, took the helm on this project, surveying the location, providing art direction, and even leading our national certified install team of 10 during its two-day install window. The vast majority of the graphics were printed on jersey mesh, to achieve a higher end look, and looked fantastic broadcast on network TV. The most difficult aspect of the job, according to Smith, was capturing the dimensions of the ski-jump, which permanently lives in water.
