One of the longest running TV shows in history, The Simpsons, soon makes it syndication debut on the fledgling cable channel FXX. To kick off the 12-day marathon, which includes all 552 episodes, FXX brought a mini-carnival to San Diego Comic-Con and wowed attendees with a variety of Simpsons events, character appearances, immersive video experiences, and an array of colorful concessions graphics.
Midway Marketing, which represents over 200 Carnivals and Midways from across the U.S. and Canada, and entertains more than 35 million consumers a year, approached bluemedia to convert an older water game and concession stand into fun, engaging activations at Comic-Con. With tight turn times throughout our 130,000 sq. ft. production facility (art was approved Friday at 5:30 pm, install started on Tuesday morning in San Diego), our design, print, finishing and shipping departments worked late hours over the weekend to get the project completed and on its way to California before Comic-Con began.
At the convention, visitors had a chance to compete for fun prizes at the KWIK-E-RACE, a Simpsons-themed water-shooting game, where lucky winners walked away with pink-frosted, donut-shaped pillows. Or attendees could head over to Marge’s Sweet Station, a Simpsons-themed Concession Stand serving delicious, blue cotton candy, which was free to the public. Pieces produced for the project included 6mm Sintra pink donuts that were used as targets in the water-shooting game, dye-sublimated seat covers, and hundreds of feet of 3M IJ3552C-10 to wrap both environments. Install took place over two days, with two members of the bluemedia Field Install Team traveling to San Diego and working long hours to make it happen.
In the end, attendees were thrilled and engaged by the two pieces, and Midway Marketing was very please with the result. Here’s to another 25 years of D’ohs, Haw Haws, and Hi-Diddly-Ho’s!
I wanted to thank you for getting this project completed on time. All of the signage looks great. The store is open and selling cars like crazy.
