When universities want to renovate their football stadiums with new construction and décor, they call Populous – design, architecture, and brand activation firm. The University of Arizona wanted a new look and some modern experiential activations ready to go for football season. To execute their designs, Populous chose bluemedia.
The fabrication team at bluemedia built light boxes, neon lettering, and a large illuminated cabinet. We printed wall graphics of players, team slogans, logos and the U of A Wildcat. And, we worked with the University’s A/V team to create a programmable LED tunnel, or “Zona Zoo Chute,” where music is synchronized with the lighting to create the appearance of a digital audio equalizer, with a few different music options to choose from. The plan for the chute was for students entering the stadium for a game to gather outside the tunnel and wait. While the crowd grew, a light show, synchronized to upbeat, energizing music, would play, building excitement until the gates opened. Then, everyone would rush in to cheer on the team.
During the renovation, construction slipped behind schedule. Walls on which the bluemedia team was supposed to install graphics were not ready for the work. Programming for the Zona Zoo Chute was also delayed. For most of its installations, bluemedia faced a seriously compressed timeframe – less than two weeks to execute.
The team worked in sync, with precise timing and coordinated effort to get the job done by the deadline. In the end, at the final walk through with Populous and U of A Athletics, everyone was thrilled at how it all came together. U of A was so happy with the graphics they decided to cover more of the new walls right away. It was a win for all.
You and your team were awesome partners for the Championship Campus and CFP related events, and I wanted to thank you and let you know I really appreciated all you did.
